Cutting the round bar to length is the first labor-intensive step in the manufacture of any bolt. Instead of utilizing a saw blade to cut through the steel, our Peddinghaus shears chop it like a guillotine. Round bars up to 2 inches in diameter and 100 inches in length can be sheared by our company. Band saws are used to cut bolts that have a greater diameter or a longer length. The steel rod’s one end is then hot-forged with a hex head. The round bar’s end is heated to about 2000 degrees Fahrenheit by an induction heating coil.

The heated end of the rod is forged into a hex-shaped head using a national upsetter. While a plunger or die compresses the heated end of the rod, reshaping it into the shape of a hex head, gripper blocks firmly clamp the round ber in place. When necessary, the manufacturer’s logo and grade sign are stamped onto the head using a second position in the gripper block. This anchor bolt’s hex head, which will be buried in the concrete, is designed to withstand pull-out.

Before the bolts are threaded, high-speed cutting blades chamfer their ends. Once the bolts have been threaded and galvanized, this beveled end will make it easier to assemble the nut. These anchor bolts have 8″ of thread added to the end using ladies’ threaders. Chasers in rotating heads remove steel from the round bar to create the threads. To reduce friction and avoid overheating, a steady stream of cutting oil is applied. The threading operators gauge the threads to make sure they adhere to dimensional tolerances.

Before galvanizing, the bolts must be removed. Through this procedure, the bolts are cleaned and the steel’s surface is made ready to accept zinc. To eliminate cutting oil and other organic contaminants that build up during manufacturing, parts are first soaked in caustic soda. After rinsing, the bolts are immersed in sulfuric acid, which eliminates any scale from them and etches the steel’s surface.

In order to examine and package the bolts as soon as they are taken out of the galvanizing tank, they are finally cooled in quench tanks. As required by the ASTM specification, blue paint is added to the threaded end of F1554 grade 36 anchor bolts to indicate the grade. Bolts are shrink-wrapped, tagged, and banded to pallets.
